Opportunity to Help Buderim Youth - 20 March, 2008
The Buderim Foundation has been offered up to $20,000 for youth projects in Buderim. But, there's a catch: the Foundation must match the offer dollar for dollar.
Foundation Chair Gary Hopkins said a national philanthropic organisation had made the offer on condition the Buderim community organisation could match it.
"The grant and the matching donation would be used over time for community projects to help our youth. We've already had a pledge of $5,000 towards the project. We are hoping there are other generous donors available so we don't miss this great opportunity," said Mr Hopkins.
He said that Buderim youth would be invited to become members of a youth philanthropy group to decide where the funds would be spent. "Our youth will, in the process, also learn how to be philanthropists in the great tradition of people like the Foote brothers and Sybil Vise," he said.
The Buderim Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit, philanthropic organisation, was established by the Buderim War Memorial Community Association in 2003 to attract donations from individuals, including bequests and tax deductible donations.
Donations are invested forever and only the income used to make grants. The Foundation expects to make its first grants of about $15,000 later this year from the income to local not-for-profit organizations that add to Buderim's quality of life.
Anyone who can help can contact the Buderim Foundation by calling Simon Whittle on 5443 7227 or Gary Hopkins on 5476 5311 (W) or 5445 5890 (H) or emailing the Foundation.
