The Buderim Lions Park will come alive with families on Sunday, November 1, when the Lions Club of Buderim holds the first of its free Family Days In The Park.

A joint venture between the Lions club and youth organisation Fusion, the event will feature low impact outdoors entertainment and supervised children’s activities from 3p.m. to 6p.m.

Brian McBride of Buderim Lions said it was planned to hold the event monthly, except in winter.

Face painting, games and competitions will feature at one end of the park. “These activities will be based on Fusion’s very successful program at community festivals and at the Buderim Big Bash earlier this year,” said Mr McBride.

Live music will be provided and Lions will run a sausage sizzle. No alcohol will be sold.

Mr McBride said Buderim Lions had been given a $2,200 grant recently from the Buderim Foundation to buy two marquees and associated equipment to use at the events.

Buderim Lions were one of seven recipients of Buderim Foundation grants this year totalling more than $16,000

He said that Buderim’s changing demographics had shown a need for more supervised activities for children, entertainment for their parents and a catalyst for interaction between community groups.

“The event will also provide an opportunity for disadvantaged and at-risk young people who are supported by Fusion to relate with and be positively influenced by others.

“We also hope the events will raise the profiles in the community of both Lions and Fusion,” Mr. McBride added.

The Lions Club of Buderim was chartered in 1967 and has 21 members.

Established in 1960, Fusion is one of the longest-established youth organisations in Australia. It has 30 centres in Australia with 250 staff and thousands of volunteers. It also works overseas. The Sunshine Coast branch of Fusion is at Alcooringa Youth and Family Support Centre in Ballinger Road, Buderim.
