The Buderim Foundation has increased its total funds to be distributed in this year’s round of grants in September to local community organisations by 10 per cent to $16,500.

Last year, in its first year of grants, the Foundation gave a total of $15,000 which was shared among the Buderim Scouts, Buderim Mountain State School and the Suncoasters Square Dance Club.

Annual grants applications close for 2009 on July 31. The Foundation’s Grants Committee will assess applications and announce the successful recipients at the Foundation’s Good News Night on September 18.

Foundation Grants Committee Chair Leanne Evans said the next important date for future applicants is a workshop for those local environmental, arts and cultural, and sporting organisations with the potential to gain tax deductibility. It will be held on Thursday, August 20, from 5.30p.m. to 7.30p.m. at the Buderim Craft Cottage.

She said that the seminar was aimed at helping local organisations gain tax deductibility and access grants from other foundations.

“It will help organisation approach donors and also tap into new funding sources like the $120 million that was distributed across Australia in 2006-07 by Private Ancillary Funds.

“We know that many local organisations are not aware of the opportunities that exist. The Foundation will share its expertise and help Buderim groups become more financially self-sufficient,” she said.

Participants will learn about funding available from private, company and family foundations and funds and which kinds of community groups qualify for tax deductibility and how and where to apply for government approvals.

Anyone wanting to attend could contact Ms Evans can reach her on the Foundation's email or phone Margaret Walshe on 54452722, or Simon Whittle on 5443 7227.

Foundation Deputy Chair Simon Whittle said the Foundation joined other affiliates in thanking the BWMCA for the opportunity to market the Foundation through the recent Buderim Big Bash. “We were able to show off our new DVD and signage and grow awareness of the Foundation’s website www.buderimfoundation.org.au and the associated Gifts in Memory program,” he said.

Mr Whittle said the Foundation was grateful, too, to the growing list of donors.

The Buderim Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit, philanthropic organisation, was established by the Buderim War Memorial Community Association in 2003 to attract donations from individuals, including bequests and tax deductible donations.

Donations are invested forever and only the income used to make grants. The Foundation accepts donations of anything of value including cash, shares, property, or art.
